Joseph “Joe” Herman Pope, Sr., a native of Pensacola, FL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the age of 89. Joe was a member of First Baptist Tillman’s Corner Church, Tillman’s Corner Civic Center, the Shriners, Woodman of the World, American Legion Post 49 and was a WW II Army Veteran and a US Air Force Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harrison Pope and Mary Lilla Johnson Pope; two sisters, Mary Lou Pope and Vinnie Pope; and four brothers, John Pope, Arange Pope, David L. Pope and Charles Pope. His survivors include his children, Joseph Herman “JR” Pope, Jr. and Tina Pope; two brothers, Major Harrison Pope and Virgil D. Pope; one sister, Faye Pope White; nieces, Andrea Pope and Marlow Pope; nephews, Josh Pope and his wife, Angie, and Caleb Pope; other nieces and nephews; numerous grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Joe’s name be made to First Baptist Tillman’s Corner Church, 5660 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619.
