James Harold Jones

May 8, 1924 – May 18, 2019

James Harold Jones, age 95, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, May 18, 2019.  He was a native of Toulminville, Alabama, and a long-time resident of Mobile.  Harold was born to Walter James Jones, Jr. and Margaret McRae Jones on May 8, 1924.

During World War II, he served in the US Navy on the USS Franklin and was on board when it was bombed in 1945. He was very proud to have served his country and could often be seen wearing his WWII Veterans hat.

After the service he spent his time doting on his nieces and nephews which he loved dearly. He would often tell stories of the things he used to do with them.

He started working for Gulf Coast Marine Supply Company in 1949. After 53 years of service, he retired from Gulf Coast Marine Supply Co. as Manager of the Marine Supply Department.

Harold was a member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship.  In his earlier days he was an active leader in several churches in Mobile.  Harold loved his Lord and Savior and lived his life accordingly.

Mr. Jones is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Margaret (Margie) Hanks Jones.  He is also survived by his daughters and their families: Nancy Jones Bingham (Bobby), Stephanie Jones Upshaw, Angela Jones Cedotal (Todd); nine grandchildren: Brittany Willie (Kevin), Victoria Williams (Toby), Justin Jordan, Brandon Jordan, Lauren Jordan, Hailey-Ann Cedotal, Katelynn Upshaw, and Noah Upshaw.  Four great-grandchildren:  Taylor Terry, Lucas Willie, Caroline and Paisley Williams. Harold is survived by one sister, Verna Rae Roberts, one brother David Jones Sr. other relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his siblings: Lucille Andrews, Joyce Tatchio, Gaston Jones, Charlie Jones, Paul Jones, Bette McKinzie and one grandson, Joshua James Bingham.

His life touched so many, and in his last years, Harold and his family were blessed by the encouragement, love and support they received from family and friends in the community.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin Wednesday at 12:00 Noon.   Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
