Anita Westerberg

Gertrud Anita Westerberg passed away after a struggle with cancer on Saturday, January 12, 2019. She was born in Obbola, Sweden on June 21, 1938 to parents Sigfrid and Astrid. At the age of 20, she married her sweetheart, Lennart Westerberg. They were married for sixty wonderful years. They both loved to dance and had many close friendships that enriched their lives. Anita and Lennart raised two boys, Lars and Anders, in the small towns of Kalix and Pitea, in the northern part of Sweden.
While the kids were small, Anita worked as a schoolteacher and Lennart worked in the local paper mill. After the kids finished school in 1983, the family immigrated to the USA for what was initially a one-year assignment. It turned into much more and she lived the rest of her life in Mobile, Alabama. There she had the chance to fulfil her passion in art and became an award-winning artist. Her paintings are now bringing joy to friends all around the world.
She was a wonderful grandmother "farmor" to her four grandchildren Katrina, Amy, Isabel and Lukas. She was loved by many and will live on in the hearts of us all.
Memorial service will be held Saturday 19, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
