Anthony Joseph Dema, Jr. (known as" A. J.") - Sept 30, 1946- February 20, 2016- A beloved husband and father passed away at the age of 69 surrounded by his family. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Anthony Joseph Dema, Sr. and the late Catherine Gioia. He was the grandson of the late Lena Gioia. A. J. was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and lived in Mobile, AL during the last ten years. He graduated from Chalmette High School and went on to study at Southeastern Louisiana University. On November 5, 1966 he married the love of his life, Dolly Ann Jennings. Together they had 3 children. A. J. was known for his easy going personality and was a very generous, giving and big hearted man. He believed in sharing whatever he had and was known for opposing being stingy. Some of his favorite times were watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time out with family. He was an avid sports fan, particularly the New Orleans Saints, Pelicans, LSU and the Detroit Tigers. In his younger years his passion was playing baseball. Anthony made many lifelong friends and relationships his career. He worked for Zetz 7up bottling company, Cooper/T. Smith & Sons and many years with United Cab Company in New Orleans. He also ran and owned Dema's Hardware Store during the 70's alongside his wife Dolly. He was known by many from the Fair Grounds Racetrack in N.O. where he made lifelong friends. He was definitely known as being "one of a kind". He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dolly and proud father of Maryann, Michael and Eddie; loving grandfather of Jason, Lexi and Eddie. He was expecting his first great grandson, Jack Anthony. He is also survived by 5 step grandchildren, Joey, Tiffany, David, Hailey and Mason; step father, Dominick Russo; 2 loving brothers, Audy McCool and David Russo, loving daughters-in-law Shontell and Jane; many nieces and nephews.
