Arthur Edward Green, a native of Selma, AL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the age of 82. He retired from the Alabama State Docks as Manager of the Bulk Material Handling Plant; was an avid reader and instilled the love of reading and history in his children whom he loved dearly and enjoyed camping with his wife, Karen, in an Airstream Caravelle and later a Casita with their canine companions, Jake, Callie and Charlie. Art was a member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church where he was active with Meals on Wheels and was a member of Raphael Semmes Camp 11 of Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was author of Southerners at War, The 38th Alabama Infantry Volunteers about his grandfather’s regiment and books about other regiments in the Mobile Area. When he was in better health, he volunteered at the Mobile SPCA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Rhodes Green and Pauline Smoke Burnside; his siblings, Jacob Green and Helen King; and his son, Arthur Kiplin Green. His survivors include his wife of 39 years, Karen Harvey Green; brother, John D. (Ann) Green; daughters, Rachael Gosser and Mari Green; grandchildren, Tabitha Gosser and Joshua Kiplin (Lydia) Green; cousin, Mona Meredith; nephews, Charles (Lynne) King and Ron (Carla) Green; his first wife and mother of his children, Sharon Price; sister-in-law, Judy (David) Rayfield; other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday morning beginning at 10:00 AM.
