MATHIS
Barbara Mathis, born December 26, 1933, a native of Birmingham, AL and longtime resident of Theodore, AL, departed into eternal life on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry "David" Mathis, her parents, William Quarles and Martha Knight Quarles, as well as brothers, Jack Quarles and Cecil Quarles. She was also preceded in death by her precious, beloved daughter, Carlyon Weed and son-in-law, Joe Lowery. She is survived by her sister, Martha (Wayne) Boatwright, special niece Stacie and Nancie and special great-nephews, Bradley and Brady of Birmingham, AL, and sister, Kathryn (Jack) Carroll. She is also survived by her precious children, whom she worshiped and loved dearly; Marilyn Lowery, Sherry (Ronnie) Hancock and William "Butch" (Debrah) Selman. Grandchildren, Earon (Yano) Serra, Jason (Clint) Hancock, Brian (Carol Ann) Hancock, Jennifer (Brad) Salona, Melissa Selman, Carrie (David) Hovey and JJ (Wendie) Johnston. Great-grandchildren, Chelsea Hancock, Justin Hancock, Marie Serra, Maresa Serra, Sarah Solana, Jonathan Solana, Emily Selman, Noah Hovey, Carrigan Hovey, Adyson Grace Hovey, Kenedie Hovey, McHale Johnston and one great-great grandchild, Ethan Lisenba. Barbara will be remembered as a die-hard Alabama Football Fan. She enjoyed working in her yard but her favorite thing to do was spending as much time as possible with her family. Barbara was one of a kind and will be remembered for her outspokenness and her statement to everyone, "If it is the truth you can say it"! The family would like to take a moment to express a very heartfelt thank you to some special family friends who have always helped when there was a need, Terri and Ricky Smith and Betty Ludlow. A special thank you to Linda Cox for the monogramed Alabama items that she made. Barbara took great pride in wearing those items during Alabama Football Games…."Roll Tide Roll"! Special thanks to Kindred Hospice, Dr. Barbara Mitchell, Dr. Cochran and Dr. Hollingsworth. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to The Ronald McDonald House, 1626 Springhill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604, a special house for families in a time of need.
