Our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend Barbara Allyson Rice passed away unexpectedly on November 30, 2023. All who knew her are deeply grieving her loss.
She wore many hats in her lifetime. Barbara was a nurse at one point, an educator in the school system for 20 years, and a selfless caregiver to both of her parents at the end of their life. Barbara touched hundreds, if not thousands of lives, during her tenure as a teacher. Although many of Barbara’s students will remember her for Mathematics, almost all of them will remember the sense of humor Barbara had in the classroom – she was famous for her vampire smiley faces. After teaching, Barbara worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant at Providence Hospital up until her untimely passing. Barbara was a strong believer in family – for this Christmas, Barbara was preparing a huge posterboard for her brothers with the following saying “We may grow in different directions, but our roots remain as one” It was going to be a tree filled with photos on the branches. Barbara was a lifelong animal lover. Her pets were her children and she loved them dearly. All of her animals were rescues and you never knew when Barbara would bring home another to join the family. She loved many animals in her life. One of her most special friends was her dog Hobbes. She loved the “plain, round, brown dog.”
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Hugh P Rice Sr. and Betty R Rice.
She is survived by three brothers: Hugh P. Rice Jr. (Roxanne), Thomas R. Rice (Rachel), Jonathan M. Rice (Renee), Nieces: Ashley Lambert (Justin), Morgan Baker (Mark), Alex Edwards (Will), Taylor Rice. Nephews: Jacob Rice and Johnathan Rice. Great Nephew Liam Lambert and Great Niece Maggie Lambert.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Mobile SPCA in honor of Barbara.
