Barbara Gay Sanderson was born August 26, 1932 to Bessie Marie and Charles Chapman. She left this earth peacefully in the early morning hours of April 7, 2021. She was raised in Brandon, MS and graduated from Bunker Hill High School. She married Bobby Ronald Sanderson on February 7, 1951. They raised 2 sons, Bobby Ronald Sanderson, and Teddy Lewis Sanderson (deceased), and 1 daughter, Tammy Marie Sanderson. They made their home in Chickasaw, Alabama and attended First Baptist Church of Chickasaw. Barbara was a substitute teacher for a number of years in her community so she could be a homemaker and raise her children. Later she became certified to teach Special Education and retired from the Mobile County Public School System at John Shaw High School. Because of her love for people, after retirement she started working at her daughter's Quizno's Sub Shop. She also became more involved with her church and worked in the kitchen preparing meals and served on several committees.
Barbara was a very giving woman who loved the Lord. One of her favorite quotes was, "I love you, but Jesus loves you more." She constantly shared her faith in God.
Barbara has three grandsons: Wesley Burnette Johnson, (Stephanie), Bobby Wade Johnson, (Bailey Marie) and Walker Brennan Johnson, (Reagan) all of which she had a significant role in their lives and helping her daughter care for them so they could become the men they are today. For several years Charles Banks had been there for her like a son, always doing what she asked of him.
Barbara was an amazing woman. She always loved to have a small garden and she loved plants and flowers of which she had many. Barbara was an experienced seamstress in passed years and she also loved to crochet and make quilts. She loved nature and animals, always having her hummingbird feeder out when it was that time of year and caring for the other birds that made their homes in her and Bobby's many birdhouses. Barbara will be greatly missed by so many for her she leaves behind 2 children, 3 grandchildren. 1 great grandchild. Dakota Jean Johnson, many nieces and nephews, and great friends she has acquired in this journey called life. She was greeted in heaven by her late husband, Bobby, her son Teddy, her mother, Bessie and brother Sonny and her favorite Uncle Gordon, but most importantly, her heavenly Father. To God , be the Glory for heaven has truly gained an angel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 12 noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home 11am until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
