"Barry Lee Bolson, age 81, passed away November 30, 2023, in Mobile, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley and Ann Bolson as well as two sisters, Nancy Bolson Little and Virginia "Ginny" Little.
Barry was born in Lexington, KY, September 8, 1942, to Bradley Lee Bolson and Ann (Dykes) Bolson. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1960 and enlisted in the National Guard. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany, a time he always spoke fondly of. Later, he was a supervisor for a local janitorial service and retired after 25 years at State Beauty Supply.
Barry was passionate about sports. He was the running back for the Mobile Tarpons in 1965 and was signed as a walk-on free agent wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints. He coached football and girls' softball at Independent Methodist School (IMS) for many years, where he made an impact on many athletes with his experience and motivation. He also loved refereeing high school football games and playing in slow-pitch softball leagues. This love continued as his grandsons have pursued their athletic careers, which he followed avidly. He was a die-hard fan of Alabama Football and the New Orleans Saints.
Barry also loved celebrating Mardi Gras and was a member of two mystic societies for many years, as well as the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Robert (Marsha) Bolson; sister Kate Bolson; wife of 20 years, Judy; children, Cynthia (Douglas) Till, Michelle (Shane) Hale, and Christopher (Kelly) Anderson; grandchildren, Dylan Hale, Brody Hale, Reece Hale, Bret Anderson, Addison Anderson and Chase Anderson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Mass will be at Corpus Christi Catholic Church Friday, December 8, 2023, with visitation from 10:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am with a graveside service taking place at a later date in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
