Benjamin Otis Brunson, 79, passed away March 13, 2024, at his home in Mobile, Alabama.
Ben was born on July 26, 1944, in Atmore, Alabama to Benjamin and Alice Brunson, and was the oldest of four children. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama where he was a member of the very first graduating class of Davidson High School.
Ben was a hard worker, and the word "quit" wasn't in his vocabulary. After a career in the steel alloy industry, he founded Brunson Air and Heating in 1994, where he worked with son David Brunson until he retired.
He was a man of great character and had a heart of gold. His family meant the world to him, and he would do anything for anyone in need. He was the most kind and generous man. He loved to joke with his family and friends and always had a positive attitude. He had a work ethic like no other and had a heart geared towards helping others.
Ben was an avid outdoorsman who grew up hunting and exploring all over south Alabama. He had the best stories about what Mobile used to look like back in the day and would tell stories of his adventures hunting all through the woods from one end of Mobile to the other. He had a heart as big as the outdoors that he loved so much, and his greatest passion was his family.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Alice Brunson, and his sister Lavina Tillman.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna Brunson; son Allen (Sharon) Brunson; son David (Elizabeth) Brunson; son Steven (Elizabeth) Brunson; daughter Karen (Timothy) Kunka; daughter Kelly Brunson; brother Martin (Janice) Brunson; sister Pamela (Barry) Gayles; 12 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Mobile, AL, on Monday March 18, 2024. Visitation will take place in the Murphy Center from 10am-11am followed by mass at 11am in the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Catch-A-Dream Foundation, his favorite and most beloved charity, to honor Ben's memory and to help children with life-threatening illnesses fulfill their own outdoor dreams. You can do this online at catchadream.org, by mail at 2485 Ennis Road, Starkville, MS 39759, or by texting PAWPAW to 71777.
