Benjamin Heber Caddell, Jr. was preceded in death by his first wife and high school sweetheart, Gladys Barber Caddell; his parents, Benjamin Heber Caddell, Sr. and Mae Murphy Caddell; his brother, James Allen Caddell; and his second wife, Alyne Caddell. Ben is survived by his sister, Mary Caddell Channell; sister-in-law, Perry Ann Caddell Wood; his three children, Benjamin Heber Caddell, III (Mary), Pamela Caddell Kirby and David Caddell; his grandchildren, Collena Matz (Derek), Virginia Caddell, Nicholas Benjamin Caddell and Brandon Kirby (Ashley) and great- grandchildren, Victoria Matz, Dalton Matz and Emily Kirby; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. He was born in Brent, AL and was raised a University of Alabama football fan from the beginning. He enlisted in the US Air Force after finishing high school and proudly earned the rank of Airman First Class. After his military service he moved to Mobile, AL to begin working for Hormel Foods, where he later retired. Ben was a longtime member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church and later Christ United Methodist Church, where he was a volunteer in the Lifegate Ministry. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. Ben was a proud grandfather and loved watching his grandchildren play soccer, baseball and softball. He loved to spend time with family and friends, whether traveling across the country to state parks or by hosting his famous Fourth of July barbecue. He truly enjoyed being outside and always had a beautiful yard filled with flowers. His gentle smile and loving heart will be greatly missed by many. The Caddell family would like to express many thanks to the staff at Mobile Nursing and Rehab and Kindred Hospice for the wonderful love and commitment to Mr. Ben Caddell Jr in his last years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Guatemala Building Fund. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
