Bettie Bankhead

Bettie Johnston Bankhead, 91, a native of Texarkana, Texas, and a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2023.

Bettie was a graduate of Texarkana High School. She received her registered nurse certification and license in 1952 and later received her Bachelor of Science degree from Springhill College at age 51. She practiced nursing most of her career with Urology Associates in Mobile. She married the love of her life, Ribble, in 1952, and they remained happily married until he passed away in 2017. Bettie loved The Lord and enjoyed serving alongside her husband at First Baptist Church in Theodore. She also loved her fur babies, particularly her rescue dog, Fergie.

Bettie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ribble Bankhead; her parents, Estes and Lena Johnston; and her only sister, Esther Johnson. She is survived by her only son, Ernest (Melanie); one granddaughter, Linzie Atkinson (Adam); two great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Brooklynn; and her sweet Annabelle Espinoza and her son, Tomas.

Services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens on Monday, August 21, 2023, with visitation at 11 a.m. Graveside Service will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery at noon.
