BUSBY
February 2, 2015
Betty Jean Snowden Busby entered this life on September 21, 1927. At the age of 18 she met and married Louie Barton Busby in the First Church of the Nazarene. Their marriage lasted 55 years and produced four children, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Although she was a lifelong resident of Mobile, she enjoyed traveling with friends and family, and had the opportunity to visit Canada, Europe, and many states. She enjoyed seeing new places and appreciated the beauty of nature.
Betty was devoted to her family. Nothing pleased her more than taking care of them. She relished family gatherings and enjoyed preparing big meals for her children, grandchildren, and relatives.
Betty was a humble person who clearly remembered the struggles of the depression days of her youth. She was an exceedingly charitable person, always thinking of others and sharing with those less fortunate. Betty was also a grateful person. Even the smallest deed done for her was appreciated, and up to her last days she managed a verbal "thank you" for those who offered a kind remark or a helpful hand. She had a great sense of humor and a good word for everyone who came her way. She is loved and will be remembered fondly by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Louie Barton Busby, her parents, James and Cornelia Snowden, four siblings, James Snowden, Wilbur Snowden, Francis Whatley, and Nettie Ann Howerton, and one grandson, Christopher Steele Dow. She leaves behind to honor her memory four children: James L. Busby (Jim), Linda Parker (Don), Patsy Dow, (Mike), and Ann Thompson (Don), six granddaughters, Amanda Parker, Allison Parker, Kiran Parker, Anna Dow, Katy Belle Busby, and Mary Kate Thompson, and seven grandsons, Michael Shawn Dow, James B. Busby, Brent Busby, Jeffrey Busby, Kent Busby, Jamie Busby and Michael Thompson, two great grandsons, Michael Benjamin Dow and Gavin Busby and one great granddaughter, Blakeney Busby, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, February 13, at 10:00 am at The First Church of the Nazarene on 669 Azalea Road. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am with interment at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
The family expresses deep appreciation to Augustine Slack, a friend and sitter and the caring staff of Murray House Assisted Living and Allen Memorial Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Allen Memorial Home, 735 South Washington Avenue, Mobile, AL 36603, or the charity of your choice.
