Betty Joyce Dixon Smith, 82, of Theodore, passed away on January 19, 2025.


Betty was born in Frisco City, Alabama, on September 8, 1942, to Dalton "Bud" Dixon and Eunice Dixon. Betty was born in her great grandmother's (Susie Boone) house and grew up with her brothers and parents at the end of Lloyd's Lane in the Cottage Hill area of Mobile.


Throughout Betty's life she had a variety of jobs. She was a cook and galley hand on an oil rig. She also worked as a pre-apprentice for the local 119 Pipe Fitter's Union. She worked in the tool room at Scott Paper, and also decorated cakes at a bakery. She loved to decorated cakes on the side as well, and taught this skill to her daughter. Betty also cut and styled hair. Another hobby she enjoyed was sewing and crocheting, which she taught to her daughters and granddaughters. She enjoyed playing cards, sketching and painting, and putting together puzzles.


Betty was a beloved sister and a loving mother and friend to everyone she met. She showed compassion to all and tried to help everyone even if it left her without a penny to her name.


Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Smith; parents, Dalton "Bud" Dixon and Eunice Dixon; siblings, Syliva Dixon and Billy Dixon; children, Paula Irene "Rene" Werneth, Mark Haddix.


Betty is survived by her children, Sylvia "Sissy" Wise (David) of Pensacola, FL, Luke Haddix of Chunchula, Paul Werneth (Cyndi) of Mobile, Matthew Kelly (Lydia) of Huntsville, Angela Davis (Tommy) of Theodore; grandchildren, Dalton Haddix, Erica Madison, Rachel Werneth, Michael Werneth, Anthony Haddix, Ryan Davis, Charli Godbold, Haley Hughes, Tristyn Jones, Corvin Wise. Faith Wise, Laura Mears, Wendy Hall, Sara Anderson, Destiny Mcilwain, and 19 Great grand children with 1 on the way and 1 great-great grand chid and 1on the way; Brothers-Bobby Dixon (Franki) Hollinger Island, Al Philip Dixon Irvington,Al , Dennis Dixon(Karen) Fowl River Al.


Betty's family will honor her life with a memorial service on Saturday January 25 at 12:00 at Hollinger's Island Baptist Church with visitation beginning one hour prior.
