Carmel Faith Robertson Shumock
Born January 1, 1933 in Port Arthur TX to Henry Roe and Ollie B. Robertson. She was number 8 out of 14 children. She departed this life on Sunday January 5th at the age of 92.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Hollis J Shumock; survived by son Jimmy (Debbie) Shumock, daughter Donna (David) Friday, granddaughter Amanda (Matt) King, sister Naomi Pinto, brothers Wilson (Ann) Robertson, Roe (Lynn) Robertson, two great granddaughters, two great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
She moved with her family to Columbia, MS when she was 11 then on to the Mobile area where she lived the rest of her life.
She attended Baker High School and graduated in 1951; married her high school sweetheart Hollis in Sept 1953 and had her only child in 1958. A couple of unfortunate events would give them a niece/ daughter in 1971.
She was a devoted wife and mother but worked as a dental hygienist for several years and retired from the Mobile County Sheriff's office as a school traffic officer.
She was a charter member and faithful saint at the Road Church in Spanish Fort AL for the past 10 years, helping the church get established in the Baldwin County area. She loved her church and family. She was always helping as much as she was able to. If she could not physically help, she would write a check.
Carmel began having some serious health challenges in 2024 which prompted her, along with her doctors, to make the decision to let God take over. She spent her last days at The Retreat Hospice in Mobile. It is a beautiful, serene, and reverent place from which to exit this life; if one is given that choice. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff from USA Health Providence for their excellent care. They really made a difference. The nurses and staff at The Retreat picked up the torch so to speak and carried her through the finish line. We are so blessed and thankful to live in a place where such excellent care is given with great dedication and devotion. In lieu of flowers consider contributions to the University of South Alabama Hollis and Carmel Shumock Endowed Scholarship or The Road Church in Spanish Fort
Rest in peace Carmel. Until we meet again.
