Rev. Carolyn Louise Ward Crane of Mobile, AL, passed away on November 12, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on October 28, 1937, Rev. Carolyn lived most of her life in Mobile. One of the few women serving in ministry in Mobile in the 1970s, Rev. Carolyn was a true pioneer, founding Unity Christ Church of Truth in 1975 and ministering there with great love and dedication for 42 years. Rev. Carolyn was ordained by Rev. Dr. Barbara King of the Hillside Chapel and Truth Center in 1976, and by the Association of Unity Churches in 1981. She served the Unity movement on the national level, serving for ten years on various committees, as well as serving 2 terms on the Board of Directors for the Southeast Region of Unity Churches.
Rev. Carolyn lived a life of love and devotion for her family, friends, church and congregants, and the Unity movement. Her teachings and lessons, loving nature, and generous spirit touched and changed countless lives through the decades. As a wonderful instrument of God's love, it can truly be said that Rev. Carolyn left more in life than she took out. "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Crane; her parents, Raymond and Hazel Ward; her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Ira Swingle; her niece, Karla Swingle; and her nephew-in-law, Jack Ellis. She is survived by her daughters, Rev. Christy Hancock and Dr. Melissa Crane; her granddaughter, Heather (David) Jackson-Floyes and Heather's father, Bill Jackson; her great-granddaughter, Brianna; her nieces, Valerie Ellis and Lauryn (Thomas) Poynor; her nephews, Ira Swingle III and Dr. Mark Swingle; and her cat, Marley.
