HARVELL
May 4, 1927 - Dec. 6, 2016 Cecil Clyde Harvell was born in Lower Peachtree AL, on May 4 1927. Raised by his mother, Margaret, Cecil and his brother George attended the Berry School in Rome, GA. In 1947, he married Helen and had two sons, Greg and Jeff. He began his career in telecommunications at Brookley Air Force Base in 1949. In 1961 he accepted a position at the Pentagon, where he spent the next 22 years working with Air Force as a telecommunications engineer. There he helped to develop systems that improved the communications abilities of military command posts, high-ranking military and government officials, and the President during crisis situations. On the weekends, Cecil could usually be found on the golf course. In 1983, Cecil retired from the government, but continued in the defense communications industry, working for Electrospace Systems, Inc from 1983 to 1994. He served as President of AFCEA in 1986-87. In 1996, he and Helen retired to Fairhope, AL. Cecil lost his beloved Helen to cancer in early 2011. Later that same year his distinguished career in defense-related communications was recognized with his induction into the Air Force Cyberspace Hall of Fame. In recent years, Cecil was a resident of University Oaks in Mobile, AL. Cecil is best remembered for his always positive nature, outgoing personality, and very generous spirit. He is survived by members of his loving family, Greg, Nancy, Jeff, Ken, Shannon, Taylor, Chase, Hunter, Blakeney, and Ashlyn. Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Saturday Dec. 10, 2016 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by services at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
