Charles James Alexander, Jr. was born in Jacksonville, Al and grew up in Bankston, Al. He served in the Korean War for 2 and ½ years. Charles married Mary Eloise Hendon on June 18, 1955. He moved to Mobile in 1954 to work for Eastern Air Lines and worked there for 34 years. Then Presidential, ExpressJet and Continental Express. He was the longest employee at Mobile Airport (Mr. Charlie) as of October 2008 with 54 years. He was a charter member of Travis Road Baptist Church from Feb 14, 1960, to the present. His joy was when he adopted Linda Faye Alexander (Clay) Hester when she was 2 months and 6 days old. Besides his wife and daughter he is also survived by his granddaughter Melissa Faye Hester (Wes) Hartbarger; grandson William Clayton "Alex" Hester III; great-grandson Jacob Alexander Hester. He loved to travel to Mexico, Europe, and many states including Alaska and Hawaii, but mostly to Maine to visit Linda and the kids. He was proud to have lived in Mobile in the same house from 1955 to 2018 but moved to Cantonment, FL to live with Linda and be near 'Lissa, Alex, and Jacob. Charles enjoyed airplanes, reading, gardening, Jeopardy, his church and his family. Preceding him in death was his father Charles J. Alexander, Sr., Mother Ruby Adele Hankins Alexander and sister Dorothy Faye Alexander. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials may be made to Travis Road Baptist Church, 5226 Travis Rd., Mobile, AL 36619.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
