Charles "Chuck" Wesley Barber, 82, of Mobile, AL, passed away on May 13, 2022. Chuck was born May 14, 1939 to John and Carle Barber in Pell City, Alabama and was the youngest of 12 children. After graduating High School, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1956 and served until being Honorably Discharged in 1965.
Chuck married his wife, Alice, in 1964 and they settled in Mobile in 1965 going on to have two sons (Wayne and Michael). He began working at Scott Paper Company in 1965 and retired as a Millwright in 1999. He was an energetic hard-working man who, even after retirement, never slowed down and continued to work part-time while constantly being involved in "projects" at home or at one of his son's homes.
Chuck was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was always there for knowledge, advice and counsel. He was a lifelong Alabama football fan and was rarely seen without his trademark Alabama baseball cap while typically sporting one of his many Alabama shirts. He loved to hunt and fish and found peace in spending time outdoors.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents and his 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Alice Barber (nee Mason); sons, Wayne (Kelley) Barber, Michael (Jennifer) Barber; grandchildren, Ada Grace Barber, Juliet Hope Barber, Elle Mason Barber, Adam Wilbur Barber; many nieces and nephews; his devoted canine companion, Buster.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. A Grave Side service will be held at 12:00 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
