Charles (Chuck) Leonard Cross, Jr. died at his home in Mobile, Alabama on December 15. 2024, at the age of 90. At that time, he left his earthly home to go to his eternal home in heaven.
Chuck was born on March 29, 1934 to Charles (Casey) Leonard Cross, Sr. and Frances (Fran) Hazel Argabrite Cross. George (Bob) R. Allen, his stepfather, helped raise him. He was the oldest of four children and the only boy. He joined the Marines in 1951 at the age of 17; serving in the Korean War.
Family was very important to him. He married the love of his life, Donna Faye Dailey Cross on June 17, 1952. At the time of Donna's death in 2021, they had been married 69 years 2 months and 10 days. Chuck and Donna raised 5 children: Cynthia A. Benedum (Michael, deceased), Vicki L. Hall (Robert), Amy L. Gibbons: (Jerry), Charles L. Cross III: (Jo Anne), Patrick W. Cross: (Angel).
Chuck was baptized at the age of 12. As an adult he walked out his faith daily. Three churches he attended over the years included Beechwood Presbyterian Church in his hometown of Parkersburg, WV., Life Church, Mobile, AL and Overlook Presbyterian Church, Mobile, AL. He was very active in these churches while being a member there. Some of his many ministries with Donna included a Nursing Home Ministry, working with International Gospel Outreach thru their Bible college program. A card ministry to help members stay connected to the church. He sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, led several youth groups, was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, and Occasionally preached sermons.
In his younger days he was employed at a service station then by Parkersburg News and Sentinal. Later he was employed in the trucking industry by several companies, such as Suburban Motor Freight and Jones Truck lines. Holding various jobs including Dispatcher and Terminal Manager. There were other assorted jobs thru out his life including in warehouses and painting including his last job during retirement at Balloons Everywhere.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles (Casey) Cross, Sr., Francis (Fran) Hazel Argabrite Cross, George (Bob) R. Allen, Also, going on before him, his wife Donna Faye Dailey Cross: 2 sisters, Helen Anne Cross, Mary Lee Cross Crone, and one son in law Michael R. Benedum. Leaving behind 1 sister, Carol Louise Cross Shelburne: 5 children and 4 of their spouses. 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren along with many other family members and friends to cherish his memory.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to the organization Eagles Landing that helps the Veterans. If you are unable to make a donation, please consider just doing a good deed for a veteran. Help them around their house, run errands for them or at the very least, tell them "Thank you for your Service."
