Charles Bernard Hacker - Known to all as Charlie, a native of Cullman, AL and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL before moving to Semmes, AL 12 years ago, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2023. Charlie was born in a log cabin on August 8, 1941 to Joseph and Annie Hacker. He attended McGill Institute and was a 1960 graduate. Charlie married the love of his life, Mina Joan Puckett Hacker, on April 8, 1967. Mina took care of Charlie at home until he took his last breath, a promise she made to him when his health started to decline.
Charlie was a devout Catholic. He and Mina were lifelong members of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. In his earlier years, Charlie was the cub master for Pack 29 at Corpus Christi and received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his distinguished service to youth. Charlie was employed by Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. He retired from Ingalls in 2008 after working there for 35 years.
Like his father, Charlie loved to grow fruits and vegetables, especially tomatoes and blueberries. Sharing his blueberries that he picked with his family and friends always put a smile on his face. Like his mother, he loved to bake. During Christmas time, you would find him, along with his daughters and grandchildren in the kitchen baking cakes and cookies. He will forever be known for his rum and fruit cakes that he baked. He also enjoyed taking rides, whether it was long or short, with anyone that would take him. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
Charlie is presided in death by his parents Joseph and Annie Hacker, nephews John and Paul (Ben) Hacker, and sister in law, Yvonne Hacker. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mina Joan Puckett Hacker; two daughters, Tammy Lee (Travis) and Christine Stewart (Charles); two sons, Charles R. Hacker and Terrance Hacker, Sr.; eleven grandchildren, Hannah Lee, Lauren Lee (Daniel Collins), Alex Lee, Malorie Hacker, Martha Hacker, Alana Lee, Heaven Hacker, Terrance Hacker, Jr., Isabella Hacker, Charlie Stewart and Megan Stewart who are both currently serving and deployed with the U.S. Navy; two great granddaughters, Dani Collins and Charlie Anne Collins. He is also survived by his two sisters, Martha Kittrell (Kenneth) and Helen Townsend; two brothers, Frank Hacker and Paul Hacker (Susan) along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 10 - 11A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11A.M. Interment will be at Pine Crest West Cemetery on Snow Road.
