Charles Lamb Whatley, 71, of Wilmer, AL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Born on July 23, 1944 in Monroe, LA as Charles Thurman, and adopted by Lloyd and Sue Lamb Whatley, he lived most of his life in the Mobile, AL and Leakesville, MS area. Charles was a passionate man who enjoyed working on his many cars over the years. He worked as a machinist and maintenance at Teledyne Continental Motors most of his adult life. In his spare time he enjoyed building and working on hot-rod cars, attending cruise-ins/car shows, and watching TV (especially Swamp People). Charles was proud of his three sons, Charles "Chase" Whatley of Semmes, AL; James Troy Whatley of Theodore, AL and Tyler Whatley formerly of Mobile, AL. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Angus Whatley; his mother, Sue Lamb Whatley; his sisters, Carolyn Bass and Marlene Greene; and his son, Tyler Whatley. He is survived by his sister, Jean Dalton, and her husband, Tommy; his sister, Polly Widner, and her husband, Mel; his brother, Marshall Whatley, and his wife, Hilda; his brother, Donald Fife, and his wife, Susan; his
son, Charles Whatley, and his son, James Whatley, and his wife, Kara. He is also survived by his wonderful grandchildren, Rinna Whatley, of Madison, MS; Jacob Harvison of Leakesville, MS; Ryan Whatley of Theodore, AL and Anna Whatley of Theodore, AL, as well as his many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
