Charles David Smith, 71, of Monroeville, AL, died Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Mobile, AL. He was born September 29, 1944 in Chilton County, AL to James Edward Smith and Lou Ellen Hysaw Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Ada Richey, Betty Smith, Cecil Smith, William Smith, Merlene Mealer and Milford Smith. His survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Waggoner Smith, whom he married September 9, 1999; his sons, Jeremy Smith, and his wife, Jessica Welch Smith and Bobby Smith; his daughter, Carla Waggoner James, and her husband, Bob James; his step-daughter, Sheila Goodman; six grandchildren, Landon Aubrey Smith, Trinity Welch, Candace Smith, Cailyn Pagee Smith, Haley Pettis, and Summer Pettis; his sisters, Edna Mae Edwards and Rita Latham, other relatives and friends. Charles was a longtime resident of Monroeville, AL where he lived since leaving his childhood home in Chilton, AL. He worked at Georgia Pacific for 28 years as a forklift operator until his retirement 11 years ago. Charles loved Nascar Racing and, most of all, Dale Earnhart, Sr. and also enjoyed woodworking in his shop behind his home. He was also a true Alabama Football fan. Roll Tide!! He enjoyed retirement with his wife, Barbara, and all their furry and feathered pets they loved and cared for. Charles had a kind heart, a lively spirit and a personality that was full of jokes and laughter. He loved his wife and children and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
