SIMS
Sept. 25, 2015
Cherry Mae Simmons Sims, a native of Prichard, AL, left this life on Friday to join her husband, John Benjamin Sims, Sr., eldest son, Michael Eugene Sims and parents, Winfield SH and Abbie Lewis Simmons in glory. Born May 6, 1928, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Though she lived life simply, she as a person was not. She will be remembered as a strong minded, determined woman who walked her own path. To some she may have been a rebel in her own right. She had a colorful personality that was reflected in her love of color and was expressed in the creation of her own hands which she generously shared with others. Her love of color extended into the flowers she loved to grow and surrounded herself with. She had a zeal for knowledge and curiosity that continued to her death. A consummate storyteller, she could bring a person to laughter or tears with her tales. Though her love remains with us, her laughter, knowledge and presence will be missed by her five children, Shelia Kistler, John Benjamin Sims, Jr., Scott Sims and Michele Payne; her sister-in-law, Maureen Sims and her friend that she loved and cherished as a daughter, Rebecca McSpadden, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and other relatives. A special Thank You to nurses and doctors in the ICU at Providence Hospital. They have our heartfelt gratitude for the amazing and extra ordinary kindness they showed to Cherry and her immediate family. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens, where she be laid to rest beside her son, Michael E. Sims and her husband, John B. Sims, Sr. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
