Clinton "Lavon" Howell
Clinton Lavon Howell, age 88, of Mobile, Alabama, died Thursday morning, January 5, 2017 at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care of Cumming, Georgia surrounded by his family. Born November 17, 1928, in Castleberry, Alabama, he was the son of the late Herman Howell and Leila Chambliss Howell.
Lavon graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile; in 1946. He went to work for the Gulf Mobile and Ohio railroad in an accounting responsibility and later management roles. He honorably served in the Army during the Korean War and then returned to the Gulf Mobile and Ohio railroad upon his honorable discharge, and where he worked his entire professional career. In addition to his career with the railroad; he volunteered as a weekend service patrol officer for the Mobile Police Department to help make the streets of Mobile, Alabama safe for all citizens. He enjoyed music, reading, boating, electronics, Alabama football and spending time with his family at their bayside vacation home.
He is survived by his loving wife of (68) years, Betty Cox Howell; along with two sons; Stephen L. (Cheryl) Howell of Cumming, Georgia; Paul M. (Carol) Howell of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. He had (5) grandchildren, Paul Marvin Howell Jr (Waritta), Melody Elizabeth Howell, Ryan Matthew Howell, John Clinton Howell (Elodie) and Stephen Cameron Howell. He is also survived by nephew and niece; Michael Patrick Murphy and Patricia Ann Murphy of Tampa, Florida.
A wake service is being held for Clinton Lavon Howell at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home; 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, January 9, 2017.The funeral service will also be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the funeral service in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery; 6100 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama.
