Clyde Maurice Combs, Jr., a native of Ironton, MO and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Monday, April 10, 2017 at the age of 79. He received his doctorate degree from the University of Mississippi at Oxford, taught at numerous universities and retired from the University of Slippery Rock, PA. He attended Christ United Methodist Church; enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading science fiction and fantasy and was a "Mr. Fix It". After retiring from teaching, he owned and operated Mac-Fix-It. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Maurice Combs, Sr.; mother, Mildred Collins Bates; step-father, George Carroll Bates and sister, Patricia Combs Pummel. His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Byrd Brooks Combs; his son, Creed Jeffery "Jeff" (RoseAnn) Combs; one grandson, Coby Rosheed Combs; niece, nephews; other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
