Cordelia Catlin

Cordelia Winifred "Corky" Catlin went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 1 in Bryan, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised on a farm near Bemidji, Minnesota with her parents and her brother, Conrad. She married the love of her life, Allison Ashley Catlin, on November 27, 1946, and were married for fifty-two years. They had two children, Larry and Robert (Robby). In 1956, Allison and Corky moved to Mobile, where he was a special agent with the FBI. Corky's life was characterized by her devotion to God, her family and her church. She always put God first in her life and her actions demonstrated her servant's heart, whether by taking meals to the homebound or visiting nursing home residents. Her well-worn bible was a testament to her prayer life. She loved spending time with her sons and their families, always doting on her grandchildren and being the epitome of a "fun," yet Godly grandmother! She was always the last person off the dance floor at her granddaughters' weddings. St.Mark United Methodist Church was her second home. Every week she would spend many hours there, whether planting flowers, weeding the gardens, preparing meals for a church function or teaching in Vacation Bible School. How she loved the life-long friends that she made through the church! She also served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945 at the Naval Hospital in St. Albans, New York. She was particularly proud of having participated in the Honor Flight from South Alabama to Washington, D.C. in 2012. Corky was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ellen Nelson; by her husband, Allison; by her son, Robert Ashley Catlin; and by her brother, Conrad Nelson. She is survived by her son, Larry Allison Catlin and wife, Charmen of Bryan, Texas; grandchildren, Amanda Catlin of Dallas, Laurel (Jason) Blue of Austin, Cathleen (Jon) Clough of Germany, Brian Catlin of Mobile, Ben Catlin of Birmingham; daughter-in-law, Debbie Catlin of Birmingham; great-grandchildren, Braxton Blue, Boulanger Blue, Conan Clough and Cordelia Clough. A memorial service is planned for Friday, October 5, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St.Mark United Methodist Church in Mobile. There will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 439 Azalea Rd., Mobile, AL 36609.
