Daniel Philip Curtis, 71, a native of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on May 25, 2019 surrounded by his wife and children. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Davis Curtis, Jr. and Minnie Grace McCall Curtis, and his son Matthew Ryan Curtis. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Melissa Campbell Curtis, and two children, Amanda Curtis Dunnam (Justin), Mobile, AL and Michael Philip Curtis (Chasity), Sherwood, OR; five grandchildren, Ocean Jones, Belle Strahan, Katerina Dunnam, Nora Curtis, Leon Curtis; one great-grandchild, Rosalie Jones; three brothers, William D Curtis, III (Linda), Hoschton, GA; Sam Curtis (Sharon), Enterprise, AL and David Curtis (Melissa), Prattville, AL; two sisters, Clarice C. Rich, Luverne, AL and Sally C. Sikes (William), Raleigh, NC, four sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, many cousins and friends. To him, family was the most important thing in life.
He was a graduate of Luverne High School and Enterprise Junior College and received his BS degree in Business Administration from Auburn University in 1972. He served in the Army National Guard for 7 years. In 1977 he was promoted to branch manager of Moore Handley’s Industrial Division in Mobile. He started his own business, Diversified Industrial Services, Inc. in 1984 which became a thriving and very successful enterprise.
He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church for 40 years, an avid outdoorsman, gentleman farmer, and a loving and dedicated family man. He never met a stranger and there was never a short conversation with him. He was a fun-loving husband and father, loved to travel, loved adventure and Auburn football. He will be dearly missed and remembered by everyone who knew him.
Pallbearers are Chad McElreath, David Curtis, Sam Curtis, Jimbo Campbell, Matthew Hop and Joe Curtis. Honorary pallbearers are William Sikes and Joe Johnson.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 12:00 Noon.
