Mobile, AL-Daniel William Zydiak, 68, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Little Sisters of the Poor after losing his battle with cancer.
He is survived by his children, Bill Zydiak and Mary Smith (John); his siblings, Marcia Akridge, Bob Zydiak (Jeanne), Ashley Zydiak; his grandchildren, Brittany Bouler, Nick Bouler, Katie Bouler, Becky Bouler; his sister in law, Jeanne Sanderford; his step mother, Lialine Zydiak; and many friends.
He was born in Roanoke, VA on March 8, 1946, the son of William and Mary Zydiak. He moved to Mobile in 1952, where he resided for 62 years.
He graduated from Murphy High School in 1965, where he played football. He was raised in Spring Hill Avenue Baptist Church, where he met his wife of 36 years, Gayle Sanderford, who preceded him in death in 2006. They were married in 1970.
He served in the Army Reserves for eleven years. He had several jobs throughout his life, but was most known for being a custodian at Spring Hill Avenue Baptist Church. He was an active member of the church and served as a deacon and helped out with the youth and the elderly. In 1999, he published a book, "Hey Brudder Dan", about his experiences there.
He moved to Little Sisters of the Poor for the last 3 years of his life. He converted to Catholicism in 2014.
He was a die-hard Alabama football fan and never missed watching a game. He was a kindhearted, giving man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 21st, 2015 from 10 to 11am with a mass to follow at Little Sisters of the Poor. Graveside services to be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens following the mass. Father Klepac will perform the service. Pall bearers include: Nick Bouler, Kit Kelly, Glen Corley, David Bosarge, Charlie Rose, Joey Daughtry, and Jared Miller. Flowers to be sent to Little Sisters of the Poor.
