Mr. David Alton Kent, age 76, a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away on March 15, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. David was a graduate of Ben C. Rain High School. He then served in the United States Coast Guard for 6 years; after which, he joined the City of Mobile Fire Department where he faithfully served with pride for over 33 years. He also owned Kent's Carpet with his brother, Larry, for many years.
David enjoyed being around his family more than anything. He especially loved time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Poppa, as he is known by his beloved children, grandchildren and many others was known for always living life to the fullest.
David was a member of the Condi Cavaliers and loved parading with them for 44 years and truly enjoyed being with his room and float family. He got his family involved in Joe Cain where they have been parading in that for over 40 years together and his children and grand-children just rode in Joe Cain with him last month. His Harley's were something he was very proud of and he truly enjoyed riding with his motorcycle group over the years. He loved racing all of his life and in the past few years especially loved being back close to the action thanks to the McCarron-Day racing team.
His pride was his grandchildren and anything they were involved in. There were very few games of theirs that he did not attend in person and if he couldn't attend, he made sure he didn't miss it on TV.
David will be lovingly remembered by his two children; Dee McCarron (Craig) Perciavalle and Dustin Kent; his grandchildren, AJ (Katherine) McCarron, Corey (Karli) McCarron, CJ (Cameron) Perciavalle, Connor Perciavalle, and Jordan Kent; Four Great-Grandchildren; Tripp, Cash, Emory Faye and Cruz; his sister, Madge Kent; his sister-in-laws Gloria Kent and Carolyn Evans extended family, Russell (Linda) McCarron, Rusty (Rebekah) McCarron, Josh (Hayley) McCarron, Tony (Kristen) McCarron, Luddy (Joanne) Perciavalle, and Angel Curtis; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Sondra Faye Kent; his parents, John and Margaret Kent; and his brothers, John C. Kent, Jr., Robert "Larry" Kent and William "Billy" R. Kent.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 21 2022 at 2pm from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 pm - 2 pm. Graveside services will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Larry Kent Memorial Foundation.
