Delphine Hammel

Delphine Carol Hammel, of Jacksonville, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 23, 2019. She was born to Charles Howard Mosher and Marion Lucille Zirkle in Antigo, Wisconsin on September 20, 1940.
Delphine was raised on a small farm in Antigo, Wisconsin, and was the second of 11 brothers and sisters. She learned the skills of living in the countryside, rounding up the cows from the pasture in the early morning, pitching hay, and raising chickens. She loved to ride the family's large horses, Pat and King. Delphine also loved her home state and when asked about Wisconsin would simply reply…"It's the best state." She attended Antigo Bible Church and the Bible Baptist Church in Antigo, and her love of God would have a big influence on her life.
After finishing high school Delphine attended Moody Bible Institute, in Chicago, Illinois, where she met the love of her life, Charles Alfred Hammel. They married October 5, 1963 at the First Baptist Church in Antigo, Wisconsin. While attending Moody Bible Institute they learned of Chile, a country in South America, from a visiting missionary. They heeded the call of the Lord to serve in that far away land, beginning a wonderful journey that would last several decades. They were accepted as missionaries by the Gospel Mission of South America, and made preparations for their journey. One of their first supporters was Antigo Bible Church.
They first travelled to Guadalajara, Mexico to attend language school. From there they travelled by boat to Chile, their new home for the next four decades. Delphine was active in a recently established church in La Cisterna, helping with the children's ministry and women's prayer meetings. She would go on to serve at three other churches, including the founding of a new church in Villa Santa Elena. In addition to her ministry, she also became a teacher at the Santiago Christian Academy. During their final year in Chile, her husband Charles suffered a serious stroke. They returned to the US in March 2005, and retired from missionary service in December 2006. She lovingly cared for her husband until his passing in 2011.
Delphine was preceded in death by her parents Charles Howard Mosher and Marion Lucille Zirkle, and her father and mother-in-law Charles Alfred Hammel IV and Irene Elizabeth Raymond. She was also preceded by her three brothers Wayne, Charles and Phillip Mosher, and her brother-in-law Richard W. Hammel.
Delphine is survived by her son Richard Hammel of Pasadena, CA and her son Mark Hammel and his wife Marla Hammel of St. Augustine, FL, and her five grandchildren Adam of Pasadena, CA and Brynn, Sydney, Riley and Londynn of St Augustine, FL. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law Phyllis and Ken Woodard of Deckerville, MI, Jean and Archie Gaines of Valparaiso, IN, Mary and Dan Zahl of Antigo, WI, Beverly Cunningham of Hayward, WI, Charlene and Len Krzywon of Ulm, MN, Patricia and Jim Vair of Antigo, WI, her brother Patrick and sister-in-law Brenda Mosher of Antigo, WI, and her sister-in-law Joyce Mosher of Antigo, WI.
