BMC Dennis L. Potter, USCG (RET) passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at his home in Mobile AL.
Born on April 9, 1957 in Jacksonville, Florida where he was raised, Dennis enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1974 at the age of 17. What followed was 22 years of lifelong service to his country in the Coast Guard, advancing to the rank of Boatswains Mate Chief Petty Officer.
Above all, Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Dennis Potter was preceded in death by his beautiful and loving wife of 34 years, Callie Riley Potter, his parents Herbert and Roberta Potter; brother David Lawrence; sisters Roberta “Bobbi” Florence and Mary Frances (Cawvey) and daughter Christina Spragg.
He is survived by his three children; Denice L. Potter, Dennis L. Potter, Jr and Christopher L. (Summer) Potter; brother, Herbert “Sonny” (Yvonne) Potter, Jr.; sisters Gail Smiley; Karen (Shannon) Ramey; brother-in-law Richard Lee; grandchildren Bo Bostick, Blake Potter, Katelyn Potter, Layton Bostick, Logan Bostick, Katelyn Bostick, Pateton Potter; great grandchildren, Sophia and Lucia Santillan; as well as many cousins, neices, nephews and friends.
In remembering Dennis Potter, his children asks that you take a moment to hug your parents, child, family and friends, or take a walk in the woods for a moment, an hour or a day. Time waits for no one.
