Don O'Neal Spears, a beloved son, brother, stepfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, in Bay Minette, Alabama. Born on June 30, 1953, in Mobile, Alabama to Ruth Yvonne Spears and Otha O'Neil Spears-who preceded him in death-Don lived a life filled with love and laughter that touched the hearts of many. He is survived by his cherished sisters Debra Drury and Debbie Lawshe; his devoted stepchildren Margarett Sikes, Lisa Collins, (Mike Collins) Robin Kirksey, Helenea Bohannon; and stepson Kenneth Kirksey. Don was also a proud uncle to Amanda Reynolds and Joshua Spears. His legacy continues through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward the warmth he shared with them. Don's heart was forever intertwined with that of his late wife Debra Spears. Their bond was one of deep affection-a partnership built on mutual respect and unwavering support for each other throughout their years together. The loss of her has left an indelible mark on those who knew them both. A man known for his kindness and generosity of spirit; Don had an innate ability to make everyone feel welcome. He found joy in simple pleasures: family gatherings filled with laughter around the dinner table or quiet evenings spent reminiscing about old times with friends Roy and Peggy-his lifelong companions whose friendship meant the world to him. As we remember Don's life today-the stories told over coffee cups at sunrise or during backyard barbecues-we celebrate not just what he accomplished but how he made others feel valued every day. His infectious smile could light up any room while his gentle nature provided comfort during difficult times. In this moment of sorrow mixed with gratitude for having known such a remarkable person as Don O'Neal Spears-we invite all who loved him to hold onto their memories tightly as they navigate this profound loss together. May you find solace knowing that although he may no longer walk among us physically-his spirit lives on within each heart he's touched along life's journey. Rest easy now dear Don-you are deeply missed but never forgotten. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 10am. Visitation will be 9am until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
