Obituary of Doris Ann Byrd

Doris Ann Byrd died Saturday, November 6, 2021 in Mobile, Alabama.
Doris Byrd was born in Houston, Texas to the parents Grace Byrd and Dr. Isaac Byrd. As a young child Doris lived in Houston Texas and Arlington Virginia. She spent her formative years in Washington D.C. After graduating from high school Doris soon got married to John Joseph McCabe and was blessed with two children: Joan Marie Lord nee McCabe of Hagerstown, Maryland and John McCabe of Cumberland, Maryland. Doris received an Associate in Arts degree from Montgomery College in Tacoma Park, Maryland where her academic excellence earned her a membership in the Phi Theta Kappa society. Doris also earned a Bachelor of Science degree concentrating in Computer and Information Science from the University of Maryland again earning a membership in an academic excellence society, this time from Alpha Sigma Lambda. Doris worked as a secretary with the Department of Interior and eventually came to work for the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse Cooper as an administrative assistant. Active in crafts Doris tried her hand at model making, wood carving, diamond art, sewing, knitting and crochet. She was an expert at making Afghans and made several for her friends and family. She even worked in stained glass making a checkerboard and replica of a Tiffany lamp.
Doris is pre-deceased by her son John McCabe and survived by her daughter Joan Marie Lord, brother Dr. Edward Byrd, sister Juanita Peachey and brother Bill Byrd. A loving and generous person, Doris will be remembered fondly and affectionately by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
