On Monday, May 19, 2020, Dorothy (Dot) Louise Burton, went to be with her Lord after a long battle with cancer. “Dot” was 88 years old and passed away at her home in Slidell, Louisiana.
Dot was born in Tylertown, MS on February 19, 1932 to Adraine Lawrence Burton and Edna Lucille Chain and was the oldest of 11 brothers and sisters, 9 have preceded her in death with Billy Burton and Gerald Burton still performing the Lord’s work.
She completed high school and obtained a Master of Education at Georgia State. She taught special education classes in Georgia til retirement and served in the Peace Corp in the Dominican Republic for two years.
Ms. Burton raised three children, Eva Louise Phillips of Batesville, Ms., Patricia Ann Knobf of Grand Bay, Alabama, and a son Stephen Arthur Burton who preceded her in death. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family will be between 9:00 and 10:00 AM Saturday May 23 with Memorial Service 10:00 to 10:30 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mandeville, Louisiana. A short Gravesite service with be at Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile, Alabama with Pastor John Drosendahl officiating at 1:30 PM in the Peace section.
Dot was a faithful Christian and requested in lieu of flowers that donations be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 22531 Highway 1088, Mandeville, Louisiana 70448.
