March 14, 1934- Sept 17, 2016 Dorothy Hartzog Johnson, 82, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at The Fellowship Home in Valdosta, Georgia. Mrs. Johnson was born as the youngest of eighteen children on March 14, 1934, in Barbour County, Alabama, to the late Yancy and Mary Georgia Hartzog. A long-time resident of Mobile, Alabama, she came to live in Valdosta in November of 2011. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Wayne Johnson of Mobile, AL. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kay Johnson of Mobile, AL; daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Ken Alford of Valdosta, GA; grandson Matt Johnson of Mobile, AL; granddaughter Kathryn Johnson Jones and her husband Hank of Birmingham, AL; granddaughter Elizabeth Tucker and her husband Bernabe of Valdosta, GA; grandson Andrew Alford and his wife Amanda of Mobile, AL; great grandsons Rollins and Franklin Jones of Birmingham, AL: great grandson Ronnie Alford of Mobile, AL; sister-in-law Mildred Johnson of Montgomery, AL; brother-in-law Ronnie Woodall of Houston, TX; sister-in-law Elaine Hartzog of Austin, TX; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was a committed follower of Jesus Christ and a long-time member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, AL, where she enjoyed her ladies Sunday School class, the senior adult choir, and senior adult trips. During her time in Valdosta, she was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Dorothy's entire life was wrapped up in her church and family. She loved her immediate family and all of her large extended family members deeply, and she will be sorely missed. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Rd., Mobile, AL, 36619, with Dr. Ken Alford officiating. The funeral service will be followed by a committal service at the Mobile Memorial Gardens grave site. The family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home beginning one hour prior to the service. The family members would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of The Fellowship Home and Halcyon Hospice, both of Valdosta, GA.
