DOROTHY ZALENA (DOSSETT) JONGEBLOED
September 15, 1930 - November 19, 2021
It is with fond memories that we celebrate the life of Dorothy Zalena (Dossett)
Jongebloed, 91. Her lord called her into heaven from the farm in Mobile, AL, where
she enjoyed the last six years of her life in the care of her daughter, Cindy. Dorothy is
remembered as a bright woman who loved to travel, paint, sing, cook, volunteer, and
support her beloved husband, children, and grandkids.
Dorothy was born from the union of Bascom Roosevelt and Minnie Lucille Bailey
Dossett, arriving on September 15, 1930. She grew up in Newton, AL with three
brothers and a sister.
For many years, Dorothy was a parishioner of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in
Bayou La Batre, AL. She was also a member of the Mobile chapter of the Military
Officers Association of America auxiliary, a group with whom Dorothy enjoyed
monthly lunch meetings.
Dorothy's presence and kind heart will be missed by all those who knew her. She is
survived by Kimberley Jongebloed, MD, Cynthia Arthurs, RN, Teresa Turner, RN (Dr.
Curtis), Cecilia Harlan, Rosalyn Salter, DMD (Dr. Chris), and Nicholas Henry
Jongebloed Jr., MBA (Tara). Left to forever treasure her memory are Dorothy's
grandchildren: Gary Rodney Thurber Jr. (Amanda), Grant Daly, Rachael Givens (Ron),
Natalie Turner, Valerie Turner, and Carlysle Salter, as well as great-grandchild Blake
Nicholas Thurber.
Those who will hold Dorothy in their heart for the rest of their days include her siblings,
David Dossett, George Warren Dossett, and Bettye Ronning, numerous nieces and
nephews, and her favorite caregivers who are considered family: Charletta Brewer
and April Hunt.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas H. Jongebloed, of 53 years,
her brother James Thomas Dossett, and her parents Minnie Lucille Bailey Dossett
and Bascom Roosevelt Dossett.
