Dorothy Loretta Counts Lackey, a native of Mobile, AL and resident of Opelika, AL, died Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the age of 81. She enjoyed traveling and camping with the “Dixieland Trail Blazers”, cruises, playing Skip-Bo and spending quality time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Samuel Smith and Edna Pearl Hughes Smith; her husbands, James Albert Counts and Roy H. Lackey; three brothers, Clarence Edward Smith, James Bradley Smith and Stephen Samuel Smith; and a devoted friends of many years, Red Marlett. Her survivors include her daughter, Margaret Counts (Bill) Runnels; step-children, Randy (Sherry) Lackey, Russell (Crystal) Lackey and Cheryl (Dwayne) Foster; three sisters, Marjorie Evelyn (Vernon) Stowe, Helen Smith Harris and Christine Yvonne “Tina” (Ron) Bryant; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Barbara Richmond; two grandchildren, Billy (Brett) Runnels and Chris Runnels; one great-granddaughter, Marion Elizabeth Runnels, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mrs. Lackey’s name be made to Saads Hospice, 1515 So. University Blvd., Mobile, AL 36609; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Wounded Warriors Project, 2003 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. A graveside service and interment will follow at 2:00 PM in Mobile Memorial Gardens. If attending, please comply with social distancing guidelines. Facial masks are required.
