Dorothy Leslie Martin
Dorothy "Dot" Martin, 91, arrived in her heavenly home on February 21, 2016. She was born on December 21, 1924 to the late Albert and Josephine Leslie of Kushla, Alabama. Her three brothers and one sister, Albert Leslie Jr, Arthur Leslie, Bob Leslie and Joclaire Leslie (Leon) preceded her in death. Dot went to Murphy High School where she met Jiggs, her best friend and lifelong sweetheart of seventy-five years. Dot and Jiggs married on September 25, 1943 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and have served as the ultimate example of what true love is all about.
] She is survived by her husband, Ashby R. Martin Jr. (Jiggs), three children Randy Martin (Emily), Renee Thompson (John), Michele Statkewicz (Steve), ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She leaves a lasting legacy to all who knew her as she faithfully served her family, loved and lived the word of God, always reminding others of His unconditional love and mercy. She enjoyed reading God's word and quilting beautiful homemade quilts for all members of the family. In addition to being a wonderful wife, loving mother, giving grandmother and friend to all, she served her church throughout her life. She was a Sunday School teacher, and the implementer and coordinator of the prayer room and prayer ministry at Cottage Hill Baptist Church and was currently a member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship.
Dot's visitation will be 9:00-10:00 am followed by the service at 10:00 at Mobile Memorial Gardens on Friday, February 26, 2016. We celebrate her life and the words she longed to hear from her heavenly Father, "…Well done good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23a).
