Dottie Belle Blevins McCord, peacefully left this earth for her eternal home with Jesus, surrounded by family after a three-year battle with cancer. She was a native of Irvine, Kentucky and longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama. She enjoyed serving others through Pink Lady many years ago and working with handicapped children at Cottage Hill Baptist Church. In recent years, she served on the Advisory Board of The Salvation Army. She was a very active member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship. Dottie and her husband, Jim, enjoyed many years as Round Dance instructors and exhibition dancers around the country. Dottie was a founding member of Dixie Divas Red Hat Club. Mrs. McCord was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James Lee McCord; her parents, Hume Blevins and Florence Marcum Harris Blevins and her brothers, Paul Blevins and James William Blevins. She is survived by her son, Thomas Hume McCord (Catherine) of Tucson, AZ; her daughters, Gloria McCord Bridges (Bayne) of Orange Beach, AL, and Jamie Lee McCord Elliott (Tom) of Daphne, AL; her sisters, Iona Griffin, Roberta Flynn, Armilda "Micki" Steward, Mary Deborah Ditto; five grandchildren, Dena Burge Jones (Kyle) of Davidson, NC, Donald Bruce Burge, Jr. (Danielle) of Gulf Shores, AL, Justin Lee Mingus, of Richmond, VA, Rebecca Gwyn McCord of Tucson, AZ, Andrew Zachariah McCord of New Orleans, LA; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Lane Jones and Katherine "Kate" Landry Jones, both of Davidson, NC, and Donald Bruce Burge, III of Gulf Shores, AL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Mrs. McCord's name to The Salvation Army, Luke 4:18 Fellowship or MD Anderson Lymphoma Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Luke 4:18 Fellowship. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until service time.
Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
