Russell McDill, 78, passed away on Monday, September 19th, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones.
Russell was born on December 25th, 1943 in Union, Mississippi, to Mattie Lee and William Dean McDill.
He graduated from Sebastopol High School in 1961 and was voted "Mr. Sebastopol High" during his senior year.
On a fateful day in 1965, luck struck twice in Russell's life. First, he was offered a job at Engineering Service. And second, he met the love of his life, Dorothy.
During his time at Engineering Service, he relocated from Jackson, Mississippi to Mobile, Alabama in 1985, to manage their Mobile office. Later, Russell would go on and become a licensed professional land surveyor in both Alabama and Mississippi. He retired from his profession in 2016 after 51-years of service.
As a devoted husband and father, Russell placed his family's needs above his own. As a craftsman, he enjoyed woodworking, threadcount and working outdoors.
Russell is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Valerie McDill, brother George McDill and parents Mattie Lee and William Dean McDill.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy McDill; daughter, Deborah (Zeddie) Mothershead; son, Matthew (Aliza) McDill; grandchildren, Vitoria (Brandon) Chambliss, Alexandra Mothershead, Zeddie Mothershead JR., Zachary McDill and Reyna McDill; great-grandchildren Abeigh Chambliss and Kaleigh Chambliss, with an additional grandchild due in January (2023) and great-grandchild due in October (2022).
In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests donations be made to St Judes Children's Research Hospital or Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
