Edith Stacey

February 24, 1926 — September 27, 2018

Edith Stacey, 92, a lifelong resident of Mobile, died unexpectedly but peacefully September 27 at Springhill Hospital following due to heart failure with associated complications.
Edith's two sons, grandchildren, other family members and friends were by her side as she transitioned from her earthly life to join her husband along other family members and friends in heaven.
Edith was born February 24, 1926 to Regina and Eli Collins. She was the third of seven children.
Edith possessed a very strong love for life. She believed both in working and playing hard, always striving to excel in any endeavor. The word "can't" did not exist in her vocabulary. She lived her life adhering to the belief that if you seek a worthy goal, are committed to work hard, and do not quit, you will succeed. In her relations with others, she believed the commitments you keep, not just the promises you make define your character. It was because of these personal traits she was not only loved, but highly respected by all who knew her.

Edith's interest and successes were many. She loved her work, ultimately retiring at 60 following a very successful career helping supervise the building of ships for the U.S Navy in Pascagoula, Miss. Edith loved to travel, having a strong interest in learning about other countries, cultures, and states. She and her husband of over 50 years, Manual, traveled internationally to many countries including Canada, Mexico, Central America, Western Europe, North Africa, and the Caribbean. Following retirement, she and Manual traveled with their motor home to all the states in the Continental U.S.
Edith loved and excelled in both sewing and cooking. She was recognized for her expertise in making children's clothing, her famous cakes, her seafood gumbo, and of course her famous west indies salad.

Edith is survived by: brothers, Carlton and Manual Collins, sons, Don and Lon Stacey, grandchildren, Terri Mitchell, Josh Stacey, Meghan Rehm, Randi Simpson, and Matthew Stacey, six great grandchildren, and daughter-in laws Kathie and Kevin Stacey.
