Edward Anthony Hyndman, Jr.

November 27, 1945 — December 13, 2024

Edward Anthony Hyndman, Jr. died peacefully at his home on December 13, 2024, surrounded by his family. Ed was born in New Orleans on November 27, 1945 to Elsie Reinecke Hyndman and Edward Anthony Hyndman, Sr. A lifelong resident of Mobile, he graduated from University Military School and received a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from Spring Hill College. When he was 18 years old, he was awarded a full scholarship to Tulane University Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. Ed continued his legal studies at New York University School of Law where he received a Master of Laws in Taxation. Ed passed the Louisiana and Alabama State Bar exams in 1967. He served in the United States Army Reserves and was awarded a medal for expert marksmanship.

Ed practiced law in Mobile for over fifty years. He was recruited by the late William Brevard Hand (later Judge Hand) to work at Hand, Arendall, Bedsole, Greaves & Johnston where he would become a partner. He practiced at Hand Arendall for twenty-five years before becoming a sole practitioner for another twenty-five years and later of counsel to the law firm of Galloway, Wettermark & Rutens, LLP. He ended his career working with his son, Patrick, at Hyndman and Hyndman, LLC. Ed was a member of the Alabama State Bar, the Louisiana State Bar, and the Mobile Bar Association. Throughout his career, Ed’s practice focused on tax, estate, trust, timber, corporate, and real estate law with many of his clients considering him not only their lawyer, but also their friend.

Ed’s passion for learning never ceased. His love of history, literature, and language was evidenced by his extensive book collection. He enjoyed swimming, cycling, and weight lifting. Among his friends and family, Ed was best known for his quick wit and humor. Even in his final days, he never passed up an opportunity to tell a joke. Ed took immense pride in the accomplishments of his wife, children, and grandchildren. His devotion to them was unwavering.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Elsie Reinecke Hyndman and Edward Anthony Hyndman, Sr., his brother, Ernest Reinecke Hyndman, and his nephew, Father Ernest Reinecke Hyndman, Jr. Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet, and their three children: Dr. Edward Anthony Hyndman, III (Monica), Claire Hyndman Puckett (Jimmy), and Patrick Mattox Hyndman; and four beautiful and talented grandchildren: James Chappell Puckett, III, Virginia Claire Puckett, Emilia Lindsay Hyndman, and Isla Margaret Hyndman. The family is most grateful to Aveanna Hospice and Ed’s caregivers from Gentle Loving Care, especially Gwen, Irish, and Paula.
