Efford Wayne Greer, 93, a native of Reklaw, Texas and longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, died February 26, 2015. He was the son of the late Ernest Addison Greer and the late Bessie Lee Talley Greer. He moved with his family to their ancestral home in Altoona, Alabama where he attended elementary and high school. In 1942 he was inducted into the US Army and served in the Pacific Theatre from 1942-1945 participating in the battle for the re-capture of the Phillipines and the occupation of Japan. After the war, Mr. Greer graduated from the University of Alabama in 1948 with a degree in Accounting. He joined the Internal Revenue Service as an agent and moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1950. In the 1950's he joined the accounting firm of Richard Cunningham and received his CPA in 1953. In 1973 he joined the firm of Cherry, Bekaert and Holland as a partner. After his retirement he operated his own CPA firm serving clients until 2012. In 1952 he married Margaret McCorquodale McKinley of Mobile, Alabama. They raised a family of three children and enjoyed 62 happy years together. Mr. Greer was preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Greer Wallace and Virginia Greer Smith and his brother, William David Greer. Mr. Greer is survived by his wife, Margaret M. Greer, of Mobile, Alabama; his sons, David Parks McKinley, MD, of Sheffield, Alabama, and E. Wayne Greer, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; his daughter, Margaret Kathleen Greer (Gerald Tomlinson) of Mobile, Alabama; his sisters, Patricia Greer Moore (Gene) of Pottsboro, Texas and Beverly Greer Farabee (David) of Birmingham, Alabama; his grandchildren, Joseph Parks McKinley, Charles Key McKinley (Dusty), Margaret Kathleen McKinley, David Parks McKinley, Jr., Emma Anne McKinley; his great-granddaughter, Cassiday Ann McKinley; other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Mr. Greer's name to the First Baptist Church of Mobile General Fund, 806 Government Street, Mobile, Alabama 36602. Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Winford Hendrix, will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 12:00 Noon from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
