CREWS
January 19, 1931-October 20, 2015
Eloise Cope Crews of Grand Bay, AL passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Eloise is a native of Mammoth Spring, AR and resident of Mobile and Grand Bay for 54 years. Eloise Crews was married to Hurley E. Crews, Sr. for 66 plus years. Ms. Crews, as she was called by her students, had a Master's Degree in Early Education and was selected as "Teacher of the Year" when she retired from teaching for 25 years in public education and 5 years at Mobile Christian School of Mobile. Parents lined up each school year requesting Ms. Crews for their first grade class child. After her class was full, Mr. Hamner, Principal of Elizabeth Fonde School, had to insist that the parents consider someone else. Students all loved her because she loved students and they could feel it. One week before she passed away Dr. Chad Alford with a cardiac group came into her room in Providence Hospital and saw the name Crews, looked a little shocked and said "Crews, it can't be; yes, it is Ms. Crews" and ran over and hugged her several times. Dr. Alford was one of her first grade students. A few years ago, Mr. Crews became acquainted with Michael Pierce, Executive Director of MLK Avenue Development Corp. His inquiry always was how is Ms. Crews? Recently Michael was told she was very ill. "I want to go see her right now", replied Michael. The list goes on and on. She truly had the heart of Jesus to love, obey, forgive and forget. Her family all loved her: Her husband, Hurley, Sr.; two sons, Hurley, Jr. and Keith; two granddaughters, Suzanne and Emily; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee; other relatives and friends. After six compressed fractures and MRI's, it was discovered Eloise had MM. Even though she was in pain and weak, she continued sending get-well cards, thank you cards and encouraging phone calls to the sick. The last words she spoke to her husband, Hurley, were "Be sure and send a thank you card to Ethel for the gift" which was brought to her in the hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:00 AM from Creekwood Church of Christ. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, AR. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
