Emile Anthony "Tony" Duthu, 83, a native of Dulac, Louisiana, and 50-year resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9 at 6:45 AM surrounded by his loving family. His funeral is Tuesday, August 11 at 12:00 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile, with visitation at 10:00 AM, prior to his service. His burial service will immediately follow the funeral.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Jewel, who served as his caretaker as he battled Lewy Body Dementia, a devastating disease similar to Alzheimer's. Tony and Jewel were blessed with one daughter, Lorraine, whom Tony adored, and one son-in-law Eric Christen. However, the light of his life were his two grandchildren, Camilla Rosa, 5, and Luke Miller, 4, who both share the names of Tony's parents. He is also survived by sisters, Mae Smith, Libby Brunet and Rose Christen; and brothers, C.J. Duthu and Myron Duthu.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Rosemary Fazzio Duthu and Luke Duthu; brothers, Joseph Duthu, Houston Duthu, Raymond Duthu and infant brother, Roland Duthu; sisters Rita Dion, Nora Fitch and infant sister, Beverly Duthu; and niece, Jacqueline Brunet DeHart and nephew, Luke Brunet.
A veteran of the Korean War, Tony proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mobile throughout his life. During his later years, he enjoyed any opportunity to see his grandchildren.
