Ernest Edward Smith, a native of Gonzales, FL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the age of 85. He was a US Navy Veteran; served in the Korean War; was retired after 32 years of service from the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller; was a longtime member of Creekwood Church of Christ where he served as an Elder for 32 years; was a University of Florida Gator’s fan and, in his spare time, enjoyed playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Riley Smith, Sr. and Thelma Evelyn Willis Smith; his sister, Elizabeth Smith Pitts and his brothers, William and James Smith. His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patricia Ann Duncan Smith; his daughters, Marcella Smith Arnold and Valary A. Smith; two grandchildren, Hannah (Joseph) Belton and Bethany Arnold; four great-grandchildren, Joey, Jacob, Carter and Ava Belton; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral services, officiated by David Sargent, will be held Monday, December 16, 2019 at 12:00 Noon from Creekwood Church of Christ. The family will receive friends at the church Monday morning from 10:30 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
