Evelyn Ethel Alexander Faulkenberry
November 26, 1925 - March 9, 2021
Evelyn Ethel Alexander Faulkenberry, age 95, of Mobile, AL passed away at her home March 9, 2021. She was lovingly known as "MeMaw" by her family and friends. Born in Gulfport, MS November 26, 1925 to the late Esley and Mattie Alexander, her family moved to Ruth, MS where she grew up and graduated from high school. After graduation she moved to Mobile AL and was employed by Bemis Bag Co as a timekeeper. Once her children became school age, she was employed by Gayfer's Department Store as a Credit Specialist retiring in 1982.
She was asked by a friend at work to write letters to his nephew, a soldier serving in the Army stationed in Burma. The letter writing developed into a romance and eventual marriage. On August 14, 1947 at Central Baptist Church, she married the late Hillry Eugene Faulkenberry, Sr making their home in Mobile AL. In August 1952 they were blessed with identical twin daughters, Angela Dale Faulkenberry, Martha F. "Jenny" Bishop (Aubrey III) and in November 1957 a son, Hillry Eugene Faulkenberry, Jr (Diane). They were married for 54 years until Hillry passed away August 15, 1999.
Her grandchildren Aubrey A Bishop IV (Breanne) and Baxter A Bishop (Dru Lauren) were the delight of her life. She was blessed with three wonderful great-grandchildren, Aubrey A "Breyson" Bishop V, Ella Ann Bishop and Evelyn "Evie" Blake Bishop. She happily looked forward to the birth of her fourth joining the family in August. She is survived by two brothers Van Alexander (Allene) Brookhaven, MS and Carroll Alexander (Davida) Mize, MS, a much-loved sister Frances Easterling, Hattiesburg, MS and sister-in-law Ouida Alexander, Mobile AL. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who she always spoke of warmly. Her family also included two very special and devoted caregivers, Zorica Perenda and Semira Markulin. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the doctors at USA Internal Medicine Assoc, with special thanks to Dr Romsel Ang-Peters and Dr Allison Douglas for their resolute care and compassion.
Evelyn was an exceptional individual, wife and mother who cared deeply for her family, friends and neighbors. She prepared many wonderful meals and always enjoyed her sweet tea. Her outlook on life was inspiring as she embraced her Christian faith daily. Even as her health began to fail, she showed such tremendous strength. She was loved by all who knew her, such a rare "jewel" and with heavy hearts will be greatly missed. Proverbs 31:10-31
Individuals serving as Pallbearers are Aubrey A Bishop IV, Baxter A Bishop, Linwood Steiner, Lance Smith, W.C. Sellers and Edward Hudson.
Visitation will be held Thursday March 11, 2021, 10:00 AM at Mobile Memorial Garden Funeral Home. Graveside service and burial will follow at 11:00 AM.
