FORLANDO E. YOUNG
On Saturday, February 11, 2023, Forlando E. Young, a loving husband and father of seven (7) children, passed away at the age of 84.
Forlando or "Scrubbas", as he was called by his childhood friends, was born on September 14,1938 in Panama. His parents, Samuel and Bernetha Young (of Jamaican descent), knew they had a precocious, adventurous, and loving child on their hands. His zest for knowledge, ear for music, love of food and his kindness, led him to many exciting adventures and piqued his interest in countries, cultures and people. No one could resist his great smile and the four dimples on his cheeks!
Forlando became a chef on a merchant marine ship, traveled and experienced many cultures all over the world. Sitting and listening to his adventures made all want to travel and see the world. He was happy. But his happiness was not complete.
Forlando's musical abilities were vast. He serenaded his best friend's sister (Shirley) with his melodious voice and ukulele playing, won her heart, and married her. They started their new adventure in America.
They raised their children with a love for music; accountability for their actions; respect for their elders; zest for life and travel; kindness and compassion for all human beings; to be upstanding citizens; and, to love food. Lastly, Forlando was also an AWESOME CHEF! Over the years, it can plainly be said he has fed an army with his love of food and cooking.
Forlando E. Young will be known as a loving husband, fantastic father, wonderful grandfather, doting great-grandfather and a compassionate friend.
Forlando is preceded in death by his father and mother (Samuel and Bernetha) and his son (Luis Antonio). He is survived by his wife (Shirley); his brother (Luis & Helen) and his sisters (Dorothea, Hilda, Helen & William); his children (Sandy & Louie, Andonecia, Donnie & Wanda, Basilio & India, Cynthia & Richard, Dr. Gregory Evans and Ana Evans); his 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
