July 6, 1934-July 2, 2016
Gene Murry Rester died Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the age of 81. He is a retired US Air Force Veteran Master Sgt., having served over 20 years. He was also a retired Counselor for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He was a member of Forest Hill Church of God. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family, Alabama football, camping, hunting with his grandsons, and telling his stories and corny jokes. His favorite restaurants were Rocky Creek Catfish and the Hickory Pit. He was preceded in death by his parents, Murry L.V. Rester and Thelma Gertrude Cowart Rester, and his sister, Nita Rester Cunningham. His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Viola Botter Rester; two daughters, Pamela Rester (Tom) Turner and Nancy Rester (Steve) Pate; two sisters, Betty June Rester Parker and Thelma Rester (Jerry) Sheffield; one brother, Terry Rester; four grandchildren, Kristopher Alan (Heather) Dew, Kyle Anthony (Jessica) Dew, Grant Steven Pate and Brooke Christine Pate; one great-granddaughter, Laykin Allison Dew; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mr. Rester's name be made to Forest Hill Church of God, 5508 Moffett Road, Mobile, AL 36618, or your favorite charity.
